Pittsburg and the Connecticut Lakes Region are the center of the North Country's fishing and hunting. Here the mighty Connecticut River is born, forming in its passage, the Third, Second and First Connecticut Lakes and Lake Francis. Back Lake drains into the Connecticut River in Pittsburg Village, the gateway to the historic "Indian Stream Territory", an independent nation established in 1832 during the border dispute between Canada and the U.S. The largest township in all of the U.S., it contains over three hundred thousand acres of timberlands, mountains, lakes, streams and forest trails. |
